FAQ's

How do I know when to get a haircut?

There are many noticeable signs that can indicate you are due for a hair cut . Aside from the signs that indicate you need a cut to have healthier hair, you are also due for a cut if you are unsatisfied with your current hair and just want to try something new.

Signs that you hair is losing its health are dry hair and split ends. Split ends look like a "Y split" on the ends of your hair. You can tell you have dry hair if your hair is more prone to tangling. Another sign that can indicate you need a cut is if your hair lacks volume and thickness. This can lead to you being unsatisfied with the way your hair looks and spending hours every day just to get your hair to cooperate. If you are struggling with getting your hair to look just right and are not sure what to do anymore, you can try reshaping your hair or getting a whole new look that will work better for you. Our stylists can even suggest a perfect new hair style that will work for you based on your personality and facial structure.

Getting your hair cut when you notice any of these signs is very important because getting your hair regularly trimmed will keep your hair looking healthy, prevent frizzing and tangling, and will remove unwanted split ends.

How should I prepare for my appointment when getting my hair colored?

There are steps you can take to help your hair stylist before getting your hair colored . First, you should not wash your hair with shampoo directly before an appointment. Having a natural layer acts as a barrier against chemicals in the color dye. Washing your hair with shampoo should be avoided in the 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Additionally, you should try not to style your hair before getting it colored because you want it to be in its natural state. Walk in to the salon with your hair looking the way you like to wear it most, by parting it to your liking. To make sure your hair turns out exactly how you want it, it is also helpful to bring in ideas and photos of how you want your hair to be styled to help your hair stylist meet your needs and requests for the perfect hair cut.

To keep your hair color looking fresh and not worn out after your appointment, it is recommended that you get your hair colored every four to eight weeks. Roots should be colored approximately every six weeks, and if you are highlighting your hair, that should be done every two to four months. This can also vary depending on how noticeable you want your coloring to be.

What are perms and how do I prepare for one and take care of my hair afterwards?

Perms are a hair styling technique to permanently keep your hair in a certain style for a while. You can get a perm to keep your hair straight or add curls to your hair. One thing to note about perms is that you should avoid getting a perm if you just recently colored or highlighted your hair since added chemicals will weaken your hair. Therefore, the perm may not hold as well. Perms can also lighten the color of your hair. There are two types of perms you can get when at the salon, a hot or cold perm. A hot perm will use a relaxing treatment, along with heated curling rods to add curls or waves to your hair. A cold perm, however, starts with a soaking of your hair in an alkaline compound and then curls are added through tight rollers. Getting a perm will take multiple hours. A hot perm will give you a more natural look and can be less damaging to your hair. On the other hand, a cold perm will curl closer to your roots and works with almost any hair type. If you want to keep your perm looking fresh you should get it redone every three to four months.

After receiving your perm, you need to practice care at home to maintain the perm. To maintain healthy curls, you should practice deep conditioning. To make sure your curls or straightening have time to set, you should wait at least two to three days before washing your hair. When you get a perm, you should also avoid blow drying, curling, or straightening your hair since heat is not great for it. Chlorinated water is also bad for perms, so you should avoid getting your hair wet when swimming in a pool. Finally, as noted before, you should avoid dyes, coloring, and highlights if you want your perm to last.
